  Birth – Forceps delivery - Alternatives :

Do I have an alternative?

Your doctor may decide on vacuum extraction. This procedure, which is as safe for the baby as forceps and caesarean, is becoming more popular in obstetrical practices. The vacuum extractor has plastic cup that is placed on the baby’s head to softly pull him or her. Either with forceps or vacuum extraction the doctor should be well trained and ready to apply a caesarean if the procedure fails. Vacuum shouldn’t be used if there is a breech or face presentation or if the pregnancy under 34 weeks.
