  Breastfeeding – Mother’s Sickness :

Now that I have flu I am not sure what to do. Can I carry on breastfeeding?

Since the breastfeeding is what is boosting your baby’s immunity, you should definitely continue. Infection will not be spread to the baby through your milk. But you will have to take care not to infect the baby through germs on your hands. So be scrupulous in washing your hands often, perhaps with a disinfecting soap. The same applies if you get any kind of stomach bug.

Other then trying to protect your baby from your infection, the best thing you can do for both of you is concentrate on getting better. Rest as much as possible, eat nutritiously and get medication from your doctor if necessary. Extra fluids during sickness can be helpful.
