  Breastfeeding – Milk Release :

How does your body know to release the milk it makes at the right time?

As your baby sucks on your breast, your body releases the hormone oxytocin. This prompts the let-down reflex to begin. This is a feeling you will very soon be familiar with! The let- down reflex is the signal to your body to release the milk from the sacs in your breast where it is made. In the beginning the let-down reflex may take a few moments, but your body will quickly learn to produce this effect when feeding is due, when you think about your baby and even when you hear a baby cry!
